La industria corchera está amenazada por el uso cada vez más frecuente de tapones de plástico o metal para el vino. El uso creciente de estos tapones no sólo afecta a la calidad del vino, sino que terminará por causar graves daños a la industria tradicional del corcho y afectará a la conservación de los bosques de alcornoque, un medio de gran importancia ambiental.
Por otro lado, se calcula que la producción y reciclado de los tapones artificiales implica la emisión de entre 3 y 7 veces más CO2 y alrededor de entre 10 y 25 veces más gases de efecto invernadero.
Podemos contribuir a frenar el uso de los tapones artificiales consumiendo vino sellado con corcho.

The cork industry is threatened by the increasingly common use of plastic or metal closures for wine. The increasing use of these caps not only affects the quality of wine, but it will eventually cause serious damage to the traditional cork industry and affect the conservation of the oak forests, of great environmental value for its biodiversity and for being a wintering range for many European birds.
On the other hand, it is estimated that the production and recycling of artificial caps leads to the emission of 3 to 7 times more CO2 and about 10 to 25 times more greenhouse effect gases.
